9 Apps Every Blogger Needs

Apps Blogger Needs

Most of us have smart phones these days. Personally, I spend more time on my phone than I actually do in front of my laptop.

As a blogger, you know that creating a successful blog means more than just writing great content (though that is a huge component!) Bloggers wear many hats: marketing, research, editing, and PR. Because of this, we need to be able to utilize our phones even when we are away from our computers.

Here are my top 9 apps for any blogger that wants to stay organized:

1. Mailchimp

I have tried a lot of different newsletter services but Mailchimp remains my favorite. I find the template design and list set up super user-friendly.  The Mailchimp app is great for managing my list, tracking new subscribers, and accessing reports for each of my newsletter. The interface of the app is easy to navigate and understand. If you are already using Mailchimp, I highly recommend this app. (FREE – iPhone, Android)

2. Google Analytics

If you are a blogger, you need to use Google Analytics. It is important to keep track of your page views, unique visitors, demographics, and so on. I use this app to check up on my daily page views when I am away from my computer. There have been times when I have been away from home and received emails from potential sponsors. This app enabled me to pull up my blog statistics from my phone so that I have accurate information to report. (FREE – iPhone, Android)

3. WordSwag

We all know that social media marketing is a key part of a successful blog. WordSwag allows you to create attractive photos with text. You can choose from a variety of gorgeous background photos or upload your own. This is an app that I use all the time to make quick but pretty graphics and quotes for Instagram when I am not near my laptop.  ($3.99 iPhone)

4. Feedly

Feedly allows you to subscribe to your favorite blogs. The app lets you set up different categories so that you can quickly access the information that you need. For example, I have a business/blogging category for the blogs that I follow offering blogging resources and tutorials. I also have another category for subscription box blogs. As a blogger, it’s imperative to keep up with other bloggers to build communities and keep current with popular topics and ideas. (FREE – iPhone, Android)

5. Instrack

I use Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook but I have found that a majority of my traffic and engagement comes from Instagram. Instrack offers tons of cool features. It shows you who follows/unfollows you. It reports stats like your numberfans (people who follow you but that you do not follow back) and people who have blocked you. Instrack also offers user insights like the users that engage with you the most and your most popular media. I access this app daily so that I can maintain large number of followers by posting enjoyable and interesting material. (FREE /Upgrades start at $1.99- iPhone, Android)

6. WordPress

This app allows me to access my blog dashboard when I am away from the computer. This is great for scheduling or editing posts. Because I write mainly about subscription boxes, this app enables me to post current coupon codes, flash sales, and spoilers when I am out and about. For those not on WordPress, Blogger also offers a free app. (FREE – iPhone, Android)

7. Instasize

I already mentioned that I use Instagram a lot but sometimes my favorite photos do not size well within the Instagram app. Instasize perfectly formats my photos for Instagram and also gives me options to add borders and other effects. (FREE – iPhone, Android)

8. Notes

I use the basic note app that comes standard with my iPhone. You can also use other popular apps like Evernote but I have found this one to meet my needs. I mostly use my Notes app to jot down blog ideas and keep a list of my favorite hashtags for Instragram so I can quickly copy and paste them when I upload new photos. (FREE – iPhone, Android)

9. Aviary

Aviary is a photo editing app that allows you to add effects, text, and stickers to your photos. There are lots of great photo editor apps out there but Aviary is my favorite. When I use my iPhone to take photos, I always edit them with Aviary. You can also use Aviary to make attractive Pinterest graphics, Facebook photos, and Instagram photos. (FREE – iPhone, Android)
