Ipsy Review – March 2017

Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription. Each month, subscribers will receive 5 deluxe and full size beauty and makeup items, including a reusable makeup bag. Products are chosen for you based on a customized profile you complete when signing up.

Ipsy Glambags vary by subscriber. Selections are based on the profile you submit when you sign up for Ipsy.

Cost: $10/month

Each month, you will receive a reusable makeup bag. The design of the bag is different each month. This month is a nudish pink bag. It’s soft and velvety on one side and the other side is mesh netting. It also folds over so it can be used as a clutch.

Because the bags vary so much for every subscriber, ipsy does not include an informational card. Sometimes there is a card with the monthly “theme” and hashtags to use on social media in case you want to post pics of your bag.Yo can log into your account at ipsy.com for details on all of your products. You can also check out spoilers early int he month in case you don’t like surprises!

This month’s card reads “You are Beautiful. (Pass it On).” Such a lovely sentiment.

The Products:

Mudmasky Facial Detox Purifying Recovery Mask ($18.50): So the value on this mask seems high but a full size bottle (60ml) is $74! This masks promises to renew an detoxify skin while also refining pores and brightening. The awesome thing is that this mask only needs to be used for 7-11 minutes (depending on your skin type.) You can use this one to two times per week.

Skone Luxe Pro Blending Brush ($15): Ipsy tends to send a lot of brushes and I love that. This blending brush is great quality. The bristles are soft yet seem resilient to falling out. It also did a nice job of blending my eyeshadow without tugging or pulling at my skin. I also really love the rose gold accent of this brush!

City Color Photo Chic Dark Spot Corrector ($3.48): I am obsessed with color correcting these days so I was thrilled when I saw this in my glam bag spoilers this month. This is a peachy hue so I’m not sure it would work well for really fair skin tones. For me, I think it will work just fine on my semi-dark undereye circles. It seems to blend out fairly well. It’s a creamy formula so I will still need to set it with powder.

tarte tartiest lip paint in delish ($3.33): Ipsy actually gave subscribers sample choices for one product this month and this was my choice. There were three shades to choose from. This shade, delish, is a rose-nudish shade. It’s a bit dark for me but I think I might be ableto make it work for me this fall. The formula is kind of runny at first so you have to be careful of feathering. It does dry quickly to a matte finish.

So Susan Blush & Glow in Rose Rust ($22.95): This blush is gorgeous! It looks dark in the package but it goes on slightly sheer and it’s buildable. It’s just a gorgeous shade. Plus, this is a full size blush!!  It’s also vegan and contains no phthalates and parabens.

Total Value

The total value of this month’s ipsy glam bag is $63.26. That is so incredible for a $10 cost! I am really happy with all of the products this month. The lipstick may be the only miss for me but again, I think I can wear it this fall.

Did you get this month’s Glam Bag? What products did you receive? I love hearing all of the variations that were sent out!

Allure Beauty Box Review – August 2016

Allure Beauty Box is a monthly beauty subscription from Allure magazine. Each box includes 4-6 deluxe and full size beauty and makeup products chosen by Allure’s beauty editors.

Cost: $15/monthly

Each box includes a mini-magazine that details each product.

Freeze 24-7 Anti-Aging Eye Serum ($52.90): Incredible value on this sample! This serum reduces puffiness and fine lines. I actually own another sample tube of this serum so I have passed this one on to my Mom.

Pur-Lisse Blue Lotus Balancing Moisturizer ($16): Another great value! I love Pur-Lisse products so I am happy to receive this. I  think I already own this one as well. It leaves skin soft and glowing without any residue or greasiness.

Supergoop Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50 ($4.12): I own this as well! This is a setting spray that mattifies skin. I love that it also includes an SPF. It’s also really refreshing and cool on hot summer days. One warning on this product: When you spray on your face, be careful to not accidentally spray any on your hair. I did get some in my hair and it left it feeling sticky.

Mally Mattewind Eye Brightener ($25): This is a dual pencil that includes a pencil and a shadow brush. I thought this was eyeliner at first! The pencil is peachy-white and is meant to be used around your eyes to help brighten them and make you look more awake!

Cargo Swimmables Eye Pencil in Pebble Beach ($12.60): I like that this shade is a deep brown but it’s not black. This will be a much better shade for work or every day wear. It’s supposed to be waterproof so I’m hoping that means it will stay in place all day.

Wet Brush Midi Brush ($8.99): Subscribers received this brush in either blue or silver. It’s a small, compact brush which I like. I usually use a wide tooth comb when my hair is wet but this brush is designed to be used on wet hair without damaging or breaking your strands. So far I have used this only on my dry hair but it does not pull my hair at all.

Verdict: The value of this boz is $119.61 which is mind-blowing! At first, I was not really excited with this box but after looking over the products again, I have to say this is one of the best Allure boxes this year for me. A lot of the products were repeats for me but that’s ok because they are products I love! I think my favorite find this month is the brush! My hair tangles so easily so I love the idea of a brush that does not break or damage my hair!

Sephora Play Review – July 2016

Sephora Play is a new beauty subscription box from Sephora. Each month, subscribers will receive 5 deluxe size samples of premium brand beauty products sold from Sephora. The box will also include a perfume sample each month.

Cost: $10/mo

Each box includes a card that is good one a free one-on-one in store tutorial plus 50 extra Beauty Insider points (with any purchase.)

The box also includes a fold out informational pamphlet that details the month’s products along with useful tips on how to use each one.

All of the products are wrapped up in a pretty bag each month.

(All values are calculated using current Sephora prices.)

This month, Sephora sent out two variations of the monthly box: one for subscribers will oily skin and one for subscribers with normal-to-dry skin. I received the box geared for oily skin.

Nest Fragrance in Citrine ($1.60): This is a great summer scent blended with lotus flower, freesia, citrus and precious woods. I like it but not as well as I like Nest’s Indigo (that scent is amazing!)

Ouai Wave Spray ($8.84): I am officially stocked up on wave and texture sprays! This stuff isn’t bad but it’s not incredible. I think I just don’t have the right hair type to pull off the beach waves. I can do straight and I can do big bouncy curls. But nothing I ever try gives me those cool, tousled waves.

Beautyblender Blotterazzi ($10): I saw this item in the spoilers and I cannot tell you how excited I got. Anything from Beautyblender is amazing in my opinion and this is no exception. This will soak up oil andd help to control shine. It will also help to smooth cracks and cakiness during the day. Plus, Sephora included a packet of cleanser!

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay ($5.11): This is a foaming gel cleasner that use botanicals and red clay to remove oil and dirt. It definitely removes excess oil without leaving my skin feeling tight or dry. This is a great find and I may pick this up in a full size.

Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer ($9.75): You can never go wrong with Smashbox primers. I love their Photo Finish primers and this version is just as great. It reminds me of the Benefit Porefessionals primer. It glides on so smoothly and really does create a soft base for your foundation. It’s not cakey or heavy but it’s also not greasy like a lot of primers I have tried.

Too Face Soleil Matte Bronzer in Chocolate ($6.86): This bronzer is made with cocoa powder for a natural glow. I love the matte finish and even though this is a medium to dark shade, it’s actually subtle enough for me to wear.

Verdict: The total value of this box is $42.16 which is impressive. Overall, I really enjoyed this box. With the exception of the texture spray, I will use everything in the box so I’m really happy with it!

ipsy Review – July 2016 “Hot Summer Nights”

Disclosure: This post contains referral links.

All of the products are in a reuseable makeup bag. The design of the bag changes each month.

Trust Fund Nail Polish in No Filter ($15) : I love this shade. It’s a great nude shade with a tiny hint of gray. I typically reach for nude colors over bold shades for my fingernails so this will be the next color I use!

J. Cat Beauty Perfect Duo Brow Pencil ($3.99) : I don’t get too excited about brow pencils just because I have so many. I do love that this one has an eyebrow brush at one end though!

Makeup Forever Excessive Lash Mascara ($7.35): : I have another MakeUp Forever mascara that I love so I’m hoping this one is just as good!

Eva NYC Get Glossed Hair Serum ($3.53)I tried another Eva NYC hair oil recently and it was fantastic. Hopefully this is another great product!

Mellow Baked Eyeshadow in Coco ($5): This shade looks super dark in the packaging but it’s actually quite sheer and buildable. It does have a hint of shimmer and I think the coppery color will work great for summer.

Verdict: The total value of this GlamBag is around $34.87 which is incredible. I’m really happy with this month as well. It’s a nice mix of makep, nail care and hair care items. It’s a bit heavy on the eye products but that’s still ok with me.

Boxycharm Review – July 2016 “Modern Merbabe”

Disclosure: This post contains referral links.

Boxycharm is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each box includes four full size products and one deluxe sample. Boxycharm releases 2-3 sneak peeks prior to shipment. This is one of my favorite beauty boxes right now.

Cost: $21/month

Ships to U.S. only (does not ship to Alaska or Hawaii)

This is the included informational card that lists all of this month’s products along with their values.

OFRA Professional Magnetic Palette with 6 OFRA Eyeshadows ($59): I have wanted a magnetic palette for a long time so when Boxycharm included this has a spoiler for this box, I was beyond excited. The  included eyeshadows are a nice mix of matte and neutral shades as well. The palette is large enough to hold at least six more pans which is great because I have several that I have received in other boxes.

Mally Beauty Rounded Blender Brush ($15): Subscribers received either this brush or a Mally blue eyeliner. I am so happy with the brush though. I’ve needed a new blending brush for a while. This is a great quality brush. The bristles feel very dense.

Noyah Lip Gloss in Melbac ($16): I thought this darker berry shade would be a little to bold for me but it’s actually very sheer. With two coats, it is a pretty berry color that almost looks like a lipstain. The formula is not tacky or thick so I am very happy with it. Plus, the top of the gloss is just too cute! It is made with earth-friendly bamboo.

PYT Hair Oil Treatment ($30): This oil leaves hair free of frizz and helps to prevent split ends while adding shine. It is also safe for color treated hair. A little goes a long way too! I have been using hair oil on my hair lately so  I am really happy to have this.

Verdict: The value of this month’s box is $130! I am so happy with this box. I actually love every item in the box and I feel like this was a great “summer” box!
