Sephora Play Review – July 2016

Sephora Play is a new beauty subscription box from Sephora. Each month, subscribers will receive 5 deluxe size samples of premium brand beauty products sold from Sephora. The box will also include a perfume sample each month.

Cost: $10/mo

Each box includes a card that is good one a free one-on-one in store tutorial plus 50 extra Beauty Insider points (with any purchase.)

The box also includes a fold out informational pamphlet that details the month’s products along with useful tips on how to use each one.

All of the products are wrapped up in a pretty bag each month.

(All values are calculated using current Sephora prices.)

This month, Sephora sent out two variations of the monthly box: one for subscribers will oily skin and one for subscribers with normal-to-dry skin. I received the box geared for oily skin.

Nest Fragrance in Citrine ($1.60): This is a great summer scent blended with lotus flower, freesia, citrus and precious woods. I like it but not as well as I like Nest’s Indigo (that scent is amazing!)

Ouai Wave Spray ($8.84): I am officially stocked up on wave and texture sprays! This stuff isn’t bad but it’s not incredible. I think I just don’t have the right hair type to pull off the beach waves. I can do straight and I can do big bouncy curls. But nothing I ever try gives me those cool, tousled waves.

Beautyblender Blotterazzi ($10): I saw this item in the spoilers and I cannot tell you how excited I got. Anything from Beautyblender is amazing in my opinion and this is no exception. This will soak up oil andd help to control shine. It will also help to smooth cracks and cakiness during the day. Plus, Sephora included a packet of cleanser!

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay ($5.11): This is a foaming gel cleasner that use botanicals and red clay to remove oil and dirt. It definitely removes excess oil without leaving my skin feeling tight or dry. This is a great find and I may pick this up in a full size.

Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer ($9.75): You can never go wrong with Smashbox primers. I love their Photo Finish primers and this version is just as great. It reminds me of the Benefit Porefessionals primer. It glides on so smoothly and really does create a soft base for your foundation. It’s not cakey or heavy but it’s also not greasy like a lot of primers I have tried.

Too Face Soleil Matte Bronzer in Chocolate ($6.86): This bronzer is made with cocoa powder for a natural glow. I love the matte finish and even though this is a medium to dark shade, it’s actually subtle enough for me to wear.

Verdict: The total value of this box is $42.16 which is impressive. Overall, I really enjoyed this box. With the exception of the texture spray, I will use everything in the box so I’m really happy with it!

ipsy Review – July 2016 “Hot Summer Nights”

Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription. Each month, subscribers will receive 5 deluxe and full size beauty and makeup items, including a reusable makeup bag. Products are chosen for you based on a customized profile you complete when signing up.

Ipsy Glambags vary by subscriber. Selections are based on the profile you submit when you sign up for Ipsy.

Cost: $10/month

All of the products are in a reuseable makeup bag. The design of the bag changes each month.

Trust Fund Nail Polish in No Filter ($15) : I love this shade. It’s a great nude shade with a tiny hint of gray. I typically reach for nude colors over bold shades for my fingernails so this will be the next color I use!

J. Cat Beauty Perfect Duo Brow Pencil ($3.99) : I don’t get too excited about brow pencils just because I have so many. I do love that this one has an eyebrow brush at one end though!

Makeup Forever Excessive Lash Mascara ($7.35): : I have another MakeUp Forever mascara that I love so I’m hoping this one is just as good!

Eva NYC Get Glossed Hair Serum ($3.53)I tried another Eva NYC hair oil recently and it was fantastic. Hopefully this is another great product!

Mellow Baked Eyeshadow in Coco ($5): This shade looks super dark in the packaging but it’s actually quite sheer and buildable. It does have a hint of shimmer and I think the coppery color will work great for summer.

Verdict: The total value of this GlamBag is around $34.87 which is incredible. I’m really happy with this month as well. It’s a nice mix of makep, nail care and hair care items. It’s a bit heavy on the eye products but that’s still ok with me.

Boxycharm Review – July 2016 “Modern Merbabe”

Disclosure: This post contains referral links.

Boxycharm is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each box includes four full size products and one deluxe sample. Boxycharm releases 2-3 sneak peeks prior to shipment. This is one of my favorite beauty boxes right now.

Cost: $21/month

Ships to U.S. only (does not ship to Alaska or Hawaii)

This is the included informational card that lists all of this month’s products along with their values.

OFRA Professional Magnetic Palette with 6 OFRA Eyeshadows ($59): I have wanted a magnetic palette for a long time so when Boxycharm included this has a spoiler for this box, I was beyond excited. The  included eyeshadows are a nice mix of matte and neutral shades as well. The palette is large enough to hold at least six more pans which is great because I have several that I have received in other boxes.

Mally Beauty Rounded Blender Brush ($15): Subscribers received either this brush or a Mally blue eyeliner. I am so happy with the brush though. I’ve needed a new blending brush for a while. This is a great quality brush. The bristles feel very dense.

Noyah Lip Gloss in Melbac ($16): I thought this darker berry shade would be a little to bold for me but it’s actually very sheer. With two coats, it is a pretty berry color that almost looks like a lipstain. The formula is not tacky or thick so I am very happy with it. Plus, the top of the gloss is just too cute! It is made with earth-friendly bamboo.

PYT Hair Oil Treatment ($30): This oil leaves hair free of frizz and helps to prevent split ends while adding shine. It is also safe for color treated hair. A little goes a long way too! I have been using hair oil on my hair lately so  I am really happy to have this.

Verdict: The value of this month’s box is $130! I am so happy with this box. I actually love every item in the box and I feel like this was a great “summer” box!

Birchbox Review – July 2016

Disclosure: This post contains referral links.

Cost: $10/month
Birchbox Points System: You will receive 10 points for each box. You also receive 10 points for reviewing each product in your box. 100 points = $10 to spend in the Birchbox shop.
Birchbox has changed their Points system as of July 1, 2016. Subscribers will now only receive 10 points for the first 5 product reviews.
Each month, Birchbox offers subscribers a choice between a monthly curated box (all samples in the box are revealed) and the regular monthly box. This month I chose the regular box. With the regular monthly box, you will have a choice of one sample item and all of the other products will be a surprise.
Birchbox always includes an informational card that details each of the month’s products.
Avene Thermal Spring Water ($4.66): This is a hydrating mist that can be used as a toner, refresher or setting spray. I have used this in the past and it’s great. A few weeks ago, the A/C was out in our office and I kept thinking how nice it would be to have a bottle of this in my purse!
Balance Me Radiance Face Mask ($6.80): This is a clay mask that cleanses, exfoliates and brightens skin. I have been loving clay masks lately so I’m excited to try this one!
bbrowbar Brow Deginer in Indian Chocolate ($25): This brow pencil is waterproof and smudgeproof. The tip is very fine so it’s easy to reach those small areas to fill in gaps without looking overdone.
Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara ($8): This is my all-time favorite mascara so I when this was offered as a sample choice, I instantly picked it. This mascara makes my lashes look full and thick. If I apply it correctly, it really does look like I have on fake eyelashes!
Davines This is a Sea Salt Spray ($11.20): This is a typical sea salt spray that addes texture and waves. I have a love-hate relationship with texturizing sprays. I want them to work on my hair but they always end up making my hair feel sticky or weighed down. I haven’t gotten a chance to try this one though so I’m hoping it’s better than what I’ve tried in the past!
Oribe Shampoo ($1.33) & Conditioner for Brilliance & Shine ($1.66): This shampoo and conditioner is very pricey so I’m happy to try out these samples. Not sure I would ever purchase these on my own though.
Verdict: The value of this box is around $58. That’s almost $50 more than the cost of the box! I am really happy with this Birchbox. Of course I’m happy to get the mascara but I’m eager to test out some of the other products as well. Hopefully the sea salt spray will work for me!

Loved+Blessed Review – July 2016

Disclosure: This box was received for review purposes. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. No compensation was received for this review.

Loved+Blessed is a monthly Christian subscription box geared towards women. Each box has a unique theme and includes products of encouragement to help you strengthen your faith.

Loved+Blessed kindly sent me this box to review.
Cost: $10/month
Loved+Blessed includes a card that details the items in the box as well as how they connect to the monthly theme.
The theme of each month’s box is on the inside of the lid. This month’s theme is “Victory.”
Each box comes with a repositionable sticker, mini poster, and wallet card. I use the stickers on my planner, my laptop etc. The wallet cards are nice to carry in your purse or pocket for those times when you need a little encouragement or guidance.
Recently, Loved+Blessed began including a packet of wallet cards and the central message so that you can pass this inspiration on to a friend.
The main item in this month’s box was this cute necklace with the words “Victorious” across the silver bar. It’s so simple but very powerful.
Verdict: As always, I enjoyed this month’s box. The message was so strong and very personal to me this month. This is such a wonderful subscription for anyone looking for a little extra encouragement and joy into their lives.
